It's good to be back at the Journal after a six-month sabbatical. In addition to catching up on my reading, I was able to complete several investigative stories. A report on depleted uranium and jet aircraft appears in this issue.

The Thames It Is A-Changing: Raise a glass for Hugh Fish, the late British conservationist whose efforts to cleanse the Thames succeeded in restoring the native salmon - after an absence of 150 years.
Joie Armstrong remembered. On July 21, a young naturalist was murdered in Yosemite National Park. An environmental trust has been created in her memory.
