  • Event: Last Whaling Station in America
    KQED (Channel 9 and other cable channels in the San Francisco Bay Area) has a new science program called QUEST. QUEST will air a story on the last whaling station in America, at Richmond, California, that was shut down in 1971. The show features Mark Palmer of Earth Island Institute being interviewed at the location of the station, our colleague Stan Minasian, and some of the people associated with the whaling operation.
  • Event / Action Alert: Step It Up 2007

  • News Room: Groups dismissed from timber lawsuit
    "They've been dismissed from the case," Rachel Fazio -- an attorney with the John Muir Project of Earth Island Institute, one of the environmental groups suing the Forest Service -- said of the Tuolumne County groups. From the Union Democrat.

  • In the News: The mountain that will spit poison
    "In 2005, the Western Shoshone council filed a lawsuit claiming the land is theirs under an 1863 treaty. They further claim that the Bush administration's 2002 approval of one tract of the land -- Yucca Mountain -- for a nuclear waste repository, violates both the treaty and, in turn, the U.S. Constitution, which their lawsuit points out makes treaties 'supreme.'"
