Thursday's Child with dolphins
States Michael Reppy: “This is the beginning of another sailing adventure and another chapter in our fight to save threatened Dolphins and Whales, especially Orcas. THURSDAY’S CHILD is a proven campaigner and winner – she will sail the oceans with her proud history as a strong emissary for our marine mammal friends.  She is presently in rough shape and needs a lot of work and TLC, but is basically a beauty of a boat with great potential.  I hope we can  live up to and add to her legend.”

MISSION

Our focus is on:

ORCAS

DOLPHINS

WHALING

Project Thursday's Child will support Earth Island Institute's (EII), International Marine Mammal Project's (IMMP) mission to work to make oceans safer for marine mammals worldwide; to strive to eliminate dolphin mortality caused by the international tuna fishing industry; to end the use of driftnets; to stop tuna purse-seine fishers from encircling dolphins in their nets; to stop the resumption of commercial whaling worldwide; and to promote sustainable fishing.

ORCAS

1. Stop any capture of wild orcas such as at Taiji, Japan in Feb. 1997.
2. Support the rehabilitation and freedom of captive orcas such as: KEIKO (Oregon Coast Aquarium), CORKY (Sea World, San Diego), LOLITA (Miami Seaquarium), VIGGA (Marine World Africa USA, Vallejo, CA.) BJOSSA (Vancouver Aquarium), TAIJI 3 (Japan)
3. Promote whale research in the wild, such as Paul Spong's ORCA LAB, in British Columbia.
4. Do public education on whale issues.

DOLPHINS

Do public education on the new dolphin legislation (Public law 105-42) which weakens dolphin protection. Support maintaining present standards for "Dolphin Safe" labels on tuna cans. Advocate buying only "Dolphin Safe" tuna. dolphin

WHALING

Orcas swimming Build public opposition to recent moves by countries to open up commercial slaughter of whales by overturning the moratorium on whaling imposed by the International Whaling Commission (IWC) in 1986. Norway and Japan have been finding loopholes in the rules for years to kill whales, despite world opinion supporting protection for whales.
