A
Note From Michael
Many thanks for all the words of support and care for me, and empathy for
my disappointment in coming so close - yes it hurts, but I have not gotten
terribly depressed. I attribute that to the great people here who have
been taking care of me and keeping very busy with work on the ORCA project.
I gave a talk last night to an environmental group and the day before met
up with Dr. Paul Spong, the ORCA expert from British Columbia and attended
a lecture of his. He is very inspiring and knowledgable and makes a compelling
case for returning captive orcas to the ocean. I will give 2 more talks
here in Tokyo and several in Kyoto. Although the press conference was cancelled,
I hope to do some interviews and write articles for publication.
Regarding NAI'A
We have received 2 calls from the Japanese Coast Guard with sitings of
NAI'A about 100 miles East of Hachijo Is. A plane will fly out tomorrow
to get a position. The Coast Guard wants me to get NAI'A as she is a danger
to other boats. We will call the Fisherman's Union tomorrow and see if
we can make a deal on getting her towed in.
I will try to get an extension on the 15 day stay allowed on a "permit
due to disaster" given me by immigration. I get a repacement passport on
Monday. Every day is very busy with these things. I'm gradually seeing
Tokyo and the way of life, not as a tourist. I am very fortunate to have
a place to stay with Masahiro in a very nice part of Tokyo called Jiyugaoka.
I plan to write up an account of the capsize and rescue for the web site.
Please keep checking in here and thank you again for your concern and messages.
Love to all
Michael
