[Yggdrasil Institute]

A project of Earth Island Institute, Yggdrasil has as its mission furthering global sustainability. The name "Yggdrasil" (pronounced ig' druh sil) is that of the world tree in Norse mythology, a symbol for the interdependence of all forms of life. Yggdrasil conducts research and disseminates information relating to environmental and ecological issues with the aim of increasing global sustainability.. It was founded in 1994 and is directed by Mary Byrd Davis.

Earth Island Institute works for solutions to environmental problems by promoting citizen action and sponsoring a diverse network of projects.  Based in San Francisco, it was founded in 1982 by David Brower.

Yggdrasil is active in the following areas:


Recent publications are The Aftermath of French Nuclear Testing in Algeria, in cooperation with the Observatoire des Armements Nucléaires (2008) and, in cooperation with Earth Healing, The Morality of Nuclear Power Generation (2007); Critical Hour: Update 2004 through May 2006 (2006); and Critical Hour: Three Mile Island, The Nuclear Legacy and National Security (2004).

Nuclear France: materials and sites (La France nucléaire: matières et sites) is a guide to the French nuclear industry, which was published in 2002.  

The Uranium Enrichment Project, active from December 1999 through February 2002, has been reintroduced to the Web due to requests in 2006 for material generated by the project.


Yggdrasil is the sponsor of PrimalNature.org with news of eastern old-growth forests and other areas not directly disrupted by humans.

 


Yggdrasil is gathering material on "green" and not so "green" sites in central Kentucky.
